Ok...familyhistoryresearch.net is a small group of genealogy enthusiasts and professionals. We have a combined experience of 10 years and we are celebrating! We spend most of our free time doing family genealogy and government record research. We also have kids of all ages and hyperactivity levels and so we do send time with them as well! Life can’t be all family history research you know. Since I began doing family genealogy research many years ago, I’ve been through every emotion imaginable. Frustration...anger..sadness...joy; Although the frustration only lasted a little while as I searched for the best places to find vital information on my family members past and present. Eventually I worked it out, after a lot of hard work...and in the next few moments I can hopefully advise you on how to do the same. |

Here’s the Problem… See, sometimes trying to find that pertinent piece of information that you need for your family research is very difficult. You can spend days going from one location to the next trying to find one piece of unusual information like...classmates...lost people...naturalization records...military records...or even inmate records. Some of these are extremely vital to understanding where your family came from and who they are. This is exactly why a few weeks ago (after being asked to do so for 2 years) I decided to strip down 8 of the most popular government resources research sites, to see which ones were the best! |
What Happened… The truth was that most of them appeared to be too ‘scamy’ for my tastes. In fact, of the 8 that I tested, only 2 made the cut as good family genealogy research sites. In fact these two sites were so good I surprised myself with some of the information I found right away! And guess what..NO MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP is needed! Here is an overview of both family research sites..and make sure you read my conclusion at the end... |

Lets begin with the exciting ‘Government records online research’, which is meant to help us family researchers to have access to millions of public family records online. |
I admit when I first looked at ‘People Records online research’, I was not as impressed right off as I was with the other sites. |
The first thing I wanted to know was if it was all legal. I did some background checking before signing up for the site and I did find that it really is all very legal and the information is top notch! I had heard good things about this service from other genealogists so I was looking forward myself to seeing what they had. Once you sign up you get instant access to millions of records in a very organized fashion. You get death records, marriage records, arrest records, prison records, missing children records, people’s addresses, bankruptcy records, and a lot more. I started to realize that this may not only be valuable for genealogy research but also background investigators also. I admit the entire site was well organized and easy to use and the members area is always updated. I tested this by looking for some information in the marriage records for family history research and then a week later going back in, and there were indeed new records (not my family though..darn!). This site has genealogy related records from every U.S. state. I was highly impressed and found some research information that helped me the very first day I had signed up. Check it out for yourself..you will be impressed! Overall the 'government records site’ is a great program... the best out of the 8 products I tested and I recommend it. It works like this...You sign up for a certain amount of credits and every time you do a search credits are deducted from your account. You then have to buy more credits when you run out. This does help in that you can use it for a while and then quit. And they only deduct credits if records are found! Click Here To Find Out A Little More ...and you can see my conclusions below... |

But when I signed up and looked into the site deeper I quickly saw that this was a cool little site for looking up family research data! A fellow genealogist had recommended this site also, as he had found some good stuff on it for his own family, which is why I included it in the 8 sites I checked out. I have little doubt that by using this site I will be able to find lost relatives as well as lost records. The databases that they use are the same ones that the government uses for background checks. I did some independent research and found that they were telling the truth! On people-records.net you can also search court records, prison records, marriage records, vital records, ancestry archives, arrest records, obituaries, and many more. The only thing that I felt was that it was not quite as organized as the winner and it did appear to be slightly behind in the amount of family history research information on the site. But it seems to be catching up, and may end up the best genealogy site, along with ancestry.com, out there in the future. As well I couldn’t get the FAQ area to come up half the time, so I deducted “points” for that! But their databases are updated what seems like daily..I ran the same test as on the other sites. It also works like this...You sign up for a certain amount of credits and every time you do a search credits are deducted from your account. You then have to buy more credits when you run out. Again, this does help in that you can use it for a while and then quit. And they only deduct credits if records are found too! Seems to be similarities in the way these family history research sites work! Click Here To Find Out A Little More ...but make sure you see my conclusions below... |

The Conclusion...? Well, after some deliberation, my conclusion is this: If you want one the best family history research site for having a high probability of finding useful information and not have to have a monthly membership than I would recommend trying Government Records as your first choice... |
People Records is a good site, don’t get me wrong, but one of the sites had to be picked as the top site! I seemed to have a little more luck with Government Records. So that’s it...if you want one site that you can pay as you go and find some genealogy information that will move your research forward and provide a lot of missing information for you than go ahead and… |
